July 2010 Report

The big news for July is the return of the annual 4th of July Lifeguard fundraiser which has been suspended for the past two years. When Matt Haley resigned as lifeguard captain in April of 2008 the program was shut down and we began to search for a replacement. Andrew Webster was hired to replace Matt as lifeguard captain in July, 2008 after the time to plan, organize and stage the annual fundraiser had passed. It was considered inappropriate to hold a fundraiser not knowing if we would have a functioning program in the future.

Taylor Bruton offered to host an impromptu fundraiser at her venue, Que Nivel on August 18th, 2008 which contributed over $5000.00 US to the lifeguard account.

Due to the absence of the principal organizers during the preliminary planning and organizing stage the 2009 fundraiser did not materialize.

Jennifer Brummer of Tortilla Flats volunteered to take responsibility for organizing this years 4th of July event for the lifeguards and at press time she is well on the way with the help of a growing team of assistants. Among her helpers are Kelley, Stephanie, Richard & Diane, Steve, Jeanine, Ron, Heather, Megan, Mary, Dylan, Taylor, Brittany, Ellen and hosts Mike and Frank Witte of Roca Verde.

The lifeguard work schedule during June was necessarily reduced due to lack of funds and the over-extension of credit by Hotel Roca Verde – the lifeguard program debt has exceeded $5000.00 US.

The 2010 4th of July Dominical Lifeguard Fundraiser & Gala Occasion organizing committee has planned the following…
